Review - Tokidoki Perfetto liquid eyeliner in Carina

So another part of my goodies from the US was some of the new Tokidoki make-up range, I normally wear liquid eye liner in all it's forms and I recently started experimenting with colour so Carina was very much my first choice.

The pen - ok so this very much has a magic marker vibe to it, it rattles when you shake it which is quite satisfying, it has a very chiselled nib to it which helps you achieve the thickness you require from your line and a really good click on cap which I would think means it will not dry out like some of the other felt pen liners I have had.

The colour - I like it, its quite muted which is nice because it makes it very easy to wear and it also makes my eyes look a little bluer than they are. You can easily wear this as a daytime look or team it with some contrasting shadow for a glam evening look.

Consistency - it's a strange one, it's quite thin but also quite pigmented. You need to build the colour to get a nice even and bold line (I need to work on this a bit more) but it is fairly easy to work with on a naked eyelid I shall have to try it over shadow next time to see if it is easier to get right.

Wear - ok this stuff is bombproof, seriously it does not come off until you want it to. Think of it more akin to a stain so it does flake like some liquid eyeliners can do on some of us oily ladies (I know some of you girls out there know what I am talking about) and this is the only liner that I have been able to use on my waterline that hasn't ended up either running down my face or in a gooey ball in the corner of my eye.

All in all I am quite impressed thought the colour might have been a bit punchier but it works well and I will enjoy experimenting with this one.

Bourjois Spring/Summer look

So as a lot of you know Bourjois has a new spring summer look out, I had to copy this from the web as my blog isn't well know enough yet for me to be invited to any events or sent freebies. Bourjois is my all time biggest makeup crush and I love every look they bring out, I look after their stand at my job and I always love to see what they will bring out next. The look is comprised of 2 shadows, pencil, lip colour and nail colour. I don't own the lip colour but I am sure it will find it's way into my collection soon as I am loving the whole matching nails and lips thing (very Coco Chanel).

So here are the pictures let me know what you think.

My base was

Bourjois healthy mix in 51 and the matching concealer. As always I used the Clarins kit for the brows.

I then swept 94 CITRON GIVRE over the entire lid from lashline to brow paying attention to the inner corners of my eyes and I also put some under the lower lash line. On the mobile lid I blended 93 TABAC BLOND stopping just short of the crease and inner corner.

Then with my trusty duochrome liner in 61 Vert Dore (the tutorial calls for 64 Tilleul Dore but I don't have that one) I lined under my eyes just to give it the extra definition. Topped off with the 1001 lashes in Black Quartz.

The nail colour is called 33 Tangerine Fatal and is an exquisite orange shade bordering on coral Like with all Bourjois nail polish the application was good, the only problems I find with them is that their cremes are a little sheer and the polish can be a little gloopy which means you use quite a lot up in just one application. Having said that though stunning colour and stunning finish.

So there you have it I might try again if I get the lips and the right liner but for now this is the only spring summer look I have bought into although the No7 one looks interesting. Which company has brought out you favourite look this season?

Some decluttering

Ok so looking out all my foundations for comparison got me looking through my make up and I became aware of how much randomness had accumulated in my make up collection. I am sucker for a GWP (gift with purchase for those that are lucky enough not to work in retail) but most of the time it is not something I would normally use or even right for my colouring so they tend to get thrown to the back of the drawer. I also managed to tear some foosty smelling lipsticks and mascaras from my grubby little paws and relegated them to the bin. So there you have it old, dried up grubby and just plain nasty products from my collection gone for good.

Does this count as a project 20 pan ?

Michelle Phan eyes

Scouting around blogland recently I stumbled across the beautiful Michelle Phan. She is a master with the old slap and has some absolutely awesome looks. Her tutorials on Youtube are a joy to behold so check them out, this is my humble attempt at her striking eyeliner for making your eyes stand out from behind your frames. I hate my glasses for one reason and that is they always over power any eye makeup I wear. It seems the the key is lots and lots of eyeliner so enjoy the shots of geek me!

L'oreal - 180 purple obsession

If ever a coloured was named for me then this is it, I was over at the L'oreal website the other day checking out what the fuss about youth code was when I spotted a gorgeous promotional shot of the beautiful Evangeline Lilly sporting some intense blue/purple eyes.

That's it I though I HAVE to have that colour, so off I trotted to Boots and looked for the colour (180 purple obsession) I picked it up and though hang on that can't be right this is most definitely a pink/purple. As I turned it in the light I could See it was shot through with a slight blue tinge but not what I was expecting.

In reality this is a far more accurate shot of the shade.

This is my take on the look and boy does this stuff have some staying power I really like the look and might grab some more colours from the range sometime soon.

FOTD - actually this was Monday

The hubby is away so playing a lot with makeup this week and I have had a different look everyday. People comment a lot on my makeup at work and how it is always changing, I guess I just like to keep it fresh and match my look to how I am feeling on the day.

Ok so I really shouldn't be left on my own, the hubby is away on business and I hate it when he is gone so to ease the pain I popped into boots/superdrug for a little retail therapy to take my mind off things. I haven't bought in ages due to trying to do the 10 pan project ( I am actually getting on really well with some of the products ) but I just couldn't help myself.

With 1001 lashes, I love this the brush really grabs the lashes and coats them individually. It isn't very thickening but it does lengthen nicely and I love the natural looking finish.

Let me tell you about ...

Make up.

I buy too much make up.

I tried to explain this to the hubby earlier this week and I couldn't quite sum it up properly, is it a problem? an addiction, hobby, interest, compulsion or obsession? I couldn't quite define why I needed to buy so much or why it makes me feel so happy. For me cosmetics are art and it is all about working with new colours, textures and techniques, It's about finding out how you can change your image or the way people see you with the colour of your lips (people really do treat you differently when you have ruby red lips) and the freedom of being able to be creative.

I guess where I am going with this is that I am starting the 10 pan project with it being a means to an end

1. to try and decrease some of my extensive makeup collection

2. to use the money saved to train as a make up artist.

I have not decided on which products are going to be my first 10 yet but I will have a look today and post the pictures later. Wish me luck.

trying out a new look

So I have done glittery eyeliners in the past but always over a shadow, I have never really tried a coloured liner. So I was quite excited to get the ELF liner sealer because this nifty little thing lets you use any of your eyeshadows and turn it into a liner (I have used a similar product from Eyeko but only with glitters and black). Purple is always my go to colour and I used the sealer with Flash from the Urban Decay Preen palette and I am really quite pleased how it turned out, it looks quite intense and it really stuck all day.

I think I shall be experimenting with all of my shadows over the next few weeks.

what it says it does -

1. Moisturising eye cream & a cooling roller ball : refreshes and hydrates tired-looking eyes

My thoughts -

Initially I thought this would be rubbish as I am always searching for the magic under eye concealer that will make my dark circles and bags disappear. At the £10 price tag I was not really expecting much and when I applied it I was dismayed to find that the formulation was very watery. Oh well I thought the search goes on but then a curious thing happened I blended it with my fingers as the instructions said and BLAM! my eye area looked a whole lot better.

I was not expecting that. Now this product is my life saver and I really have gone out wearing just a little of this and a nice illuminating face powder.

Classic face project - Revlon

I did this revlon look last week just never got around to posting it. Revlon is edging towards the top end of the budget beauty ranges but their products are still fairly good value so here is what I used.

Beyond Natural Foundation (shade 210 light/pale) £9.99

Ok so what can I say about this little lot, the foundation is fairly neat it comes out white and then colours when you blend it. This means that the shade is fantastic but as you can see from my nose the coverage is not. The concealer is just horrible, thick and powdery it is meant to be "age defying" but it just settled into all my fine lines and made my undereyes look really dry. The lipstick is a little dark to be nude on me but the texture is lovely and it lasts ages just like the liner it's a bit of a pain to get a fine line but this stuff just doesn't budge. Blush is beautiful a really delicate colour but the real big let down is their new double twist mascara. Now I only got this as part of a 3 for 2 when I was buying cherries in the snow but god it is an abomination. Clumpy, flakey and gross like mascara used to be a million years ago, I dunno if it is the brush or the formula but it just does not work!

Next up in my classic face project is Rimmel I wouldn't call Rimmel one of my favourite brands but they are cheap and good quality so it is always something I have a lot of.

Ok so what can I say about the products the foundation was nice even if it felt just a smidge dark for me and you really can't go wrong with the stay matte powder it's one of the best on the market. The mascara is one of my favourites and I use it almost everyday as you can see from the battered nature of the tube and although the eyeliner went on great and gave a really precise line it was looking a bit smudgy by lunch time. The colour of the blush is lovely and has a nice shimmer too it if that is your sort of thing, the only real disaster is the concealer the formulation is quite nice but the applicator just isn't fluffy enough and it really felt like it was scratching under my eyes.

Classic face project - Bourjois

So for a long time I have stuck to a classic face which I do when I am feeling uninspired. It is base, blush, winged liner, eyebrows, mascara and a neutral lip. I have a massive wealth of make-up based around this look and whilst looking through I found out that I could do my entire look using only Bourjois products.

This sent me on a bit of a quest to find out in all the products I have how many classic faces I can pull together using a single brand. Over the next few weeks I will be seeing what I have got in the old make-up bags and bringing you my reviews brand per brand including price.

Urban Decay eyes

Ok I have never used Urban Decay eye shadows before and I have to say from what I have seen on other blogs they looked great. So when I saw the Preen shadow box in the sale at House of Frazer I had to make it mine.

What I was no prepared for was quite how good they are when used with the primer these bad boys really stick. I applied this make up at 7.30 in the morning on new years eve and it lasted me all the way through into the new year without having to be touched up. It lasted so well infact that when I came to take it off the blue had stained my eyelids a little!

I am now an Urban Decay convert which is bound to be very very bad for my wallet.

What a great little quad this is the colours go on really sheer but also really vibrant if that makes sense. They lasted all day and the illuminating powder really does neutralise any over red tones in the skin.

I do make up everyday for work and it never really comes out the same twice so I am going to try an post as many as I can on here. I have been told that sometimes I look so different from one day to the next that my customers do not recognise me.

this is my go to foundation at the moment it is almost a dupe of the MAC select. It goes on really well and really doesn't feel cakey, it's not quite as good coverage as they make it out to be but it is an excellent day foundation.

Benefit Erase Paste (no 1 fair)

I love this stuff it really helps to even out my under eyes which I am completely paranoid about. It is quite greasy but isn't cakey and doesn't crease.

My eyes are different most days depending on if I decide to put my lenses in or not and which lenses I decide to wear. Today I went for my green tinted lenses so purple seemed to be the order of the day.

Lancome eye shadow (colour du jour)

this is a very metallic plum/brown from the free gift I got the other day I wasn't expecting much so when it didn't go on very easily I wasn't suprised. I was however pleased with the colour and it actually lasted really well all day without creasing at all and even held up to a walk home from work in the rain.
